This is my favorite instrumental composition in the Studio Ghibli cd we have been listening to the past few days as we sew up the knitted pieces. No surprise it is from spirited away and it reminds me of the scene where they were traveling by train to faraway places...

29th May 2014 - A conference of cats
If I ever past this open space at night, I will glance over at these group of stray cats that congregate at night. Without fail, night after night they gather after their meal. In the shadows they take over the space that will soon be inhabited by the humans when morning comes.

Every other Wednesday, I walk past a group playing sepak takraw, it is always nice to watch. Today, a little boy sits as the referee which was such a funny sight. He is so small in the chair but he sits with a little authority as 2 players, many times bigger and older than him, argue over who gets to go next. A big decision for a small boy.

To see my fabric design being used in other products besides those made by us is amazing! My shark attack fabric has found itself onto some dog collars for some time now but I only just got around to asking. Plus the fact the product has so many 'hearts' on etsy, it makes me so happy!

24th May 2014 - a little amigurumi horse
This little horse represents one of the many connections made during the knitting parties which has finally came to an end today. A lady who I have been sitting with for the last few sessions gave it to me as a sort of parting gift. Despite the whole interacting with so many strangers thing not being quite in my comfort zone, I am glad what the knitting parties have achieve - making connections between different strangers and creating conversations and stories being exchanged between people of similar interests!

Doing a little brainstorm about how to paint pottery. I read somewhere that Arita, a town in Japan, is famous for their painted porcelain, makes me wish to go there for a course on painting on pottery.

I present my attempt to capture today's sunset in watercolours.... I didn't nail it mostly because there were so much colour changes in the sky today from yellow to orange to a faint pink to deep blues, the sky was a beautiful colour palette.

20th May 2014 - the curious case of the missing mail
We had speculated for some time that there was lost mail that we never received... It has caused me to need to cancel my debit card (while I await the replacement) as well as a hunt for a long-overdue cheque payment. So imagine our surprise when we found a stack of mail in our post today, with post-marks from a month ago. We may never find out what happened but it gave us a good laugh and quite some relief!

15th May 2014 - Shakespeare in the Park
I was quite surprised to find myself enjoying the show The Merchant of Venice so much! Since I have never read a book of Shakespeare I was afraid the language would throw me off. But wow, I was impressed. I also liked being in the park setting and spying on the rest of the audience around us, what food did they pack, who did they come with, what mats did they bring....?

This is a sight I really miss, at every corner of our living spaces use to stand these tiny provision shops that sell everything you need. From sweets to newspapers to batteries to inhalers and even super glue, they used to be everywhere at our doorstep... Yet now they are a rare sight, sigh.

I had fun testing out this old traditional craft today. It is amazing to imagine that in the 18th Century, there weren't any mass-produced buttons and everything was done by hand. Craft, it is an age-old necessity then!

11th May 2014 - Multiculturalism and Multiracialism
(Another blank page, oh sorry I am getting lazy!) at today's session, I looked around and thought back about what Khai told me yesterday, she said she was so happy to see the mix of races and backgrounds. Indeed, I was so happy to see many strangers becoming friends and the mingling of various cultures, it is times like these that I realize that Multiracialism isn't just a government slogan or campaign, it is something that happens organically. And I am proud and happy to live in Singapore.

10th May 2014 - Community Crafting
I wished I drew something that day but I didn't due to my exhaustion! It was such a successful community knitting session today that I almost wished it could be longer. Almost. I sat with a group of strangers and we shared personal stories, helped each other along with new knitting patterns and there was just a generally friendly mood in the air! The best compliment a facilitator can receive is when participants all chime in the same words "Please make it happen more often, please make it s regular affair!"

I love that the Japanese use their pottery for everyday uses. Just sitting at a Japanese restaurant, I could not help but notice the pretty cups and containers used to hold the sauces and our drinks. The Japanese do not believe in having their ceramic wares placed prettily on the display shelf, instead they believe it should be functional.
