CNY spring cleaning

Did a major spring cleaning for Chinese New Year. It was a tiring job, thank goodness we had this little machine to help!

"the Climb"

I did this sketch of "the Climb" by sculptor Ng Eng Teng at Toa Payoh HDB Hub today while waiting for the students to come collect their tin cans for O'Joy flagday.

I read about Christine Castro Hughes that day and thought that i would try doing a collage, just for fun.
And it did turn out to be quite fun, free-flow.

The Wood-Fish

This was quite an interesting sight at the temple today. i found it more like a dragon but it had scales and they called it "木鱼". so i guess it is a fish of some sort.
(done in ink and coloured pencils.)

I remembered this little planet from "Little Prince". Recently, i have started looking for lightings. i think i really like the street light, just like the one the man on the planet had to constantly light and put out.

Niu

As many would have guessed, this character is named after a cow. "niu" is the chinese words for cow/ox which i thought was quite apt since the lunar new year is approaching! :) here's the thought process that went into the new character!

Sitting on the bank

I was very early at Clarke Quay so i decided to sit down and draw on-site, something i haven't done out of school before. it was fun, especially when no one knows you so it really doesn't matter how good your drawing turns out to be! i was thinking of London again and being on the south bank... but really i think Singapore River is so much more spruced up compared to River Thames. it was fun! i enjoyed myself so much. (at the same time eavesdropping on the noisy bunch of school girls who were supposed to be doing their flag-day. )

It started as an egg with eyes wearing a long peak cap/christmas hat on a holly leaf, which eventually started looking like a jester and when i combined the hat and the egg... a water drop. just a strange creature maybe.
