365 'Likes' Project - 26th Jun 2014
26th Jun 2014 - Coiled Rope Vessels
After obsessing over this craft for some time, I finally made one which I am happy with, and using an ancient basketry technique too! I might be making a few more to satisfy my craving. People often ask me "what do you do in your free time." I think I found the answer, 'I try out new crafts outside of my work.' Yes, even though my work involves making the whole time, it is learning new crafts like these and the dorset button and recently, sewing my own zipper-pouch, all these are not work related (yet) and is things I explore when I get some time to myself!

I have been fascinated by modern convenient stalls when I was in Japan last year with all their goods, in Singapore, they have seemed to replace many provision /mama shops which were more common when I was younger... I am not quite sure if it is a good thing.

A little sheep made a round trip to US and back to our home today via the mail as it has been unclaimed for so long. It is amazing to think this little fella has gone further then I every have on this globe and even more amazing to imagine how every parcel counts and is returned when it needs to!

This Japanese art of fabric wrapping is unique and ingenious. With just a square cloth it can be used to wrap and carry objects of various shapes securely. It has become our new packaging for the pretty but problematic knitted cactus.

I am fascinated by dream images that stay with me long after I have woken up. It doesn't happen very often, more often than not, the dreams I have every night are soon forgotten the minute I am fully awake. These few nights though I remember them vividly... I dreamt I saw whales swimming in the wide ocean from my bedroom window, it was a wonderful sight!

This quiet cafe in Strand Hotel is like our little secret place. Every now and then we will crave for their yin-yang seafood dish and decide to make a trip. Then when we enter the cafe, we are all alone and the deco never seemed to have changed from the last time we were there.

The idea that something has a history or provenance always captures me. That was the reason I was so keen on teaching the dorset button despite it being a tedious craft to make. I can imagine all these English making the buttons silently at home in their 18th century clothing. I am intrigued it has a history, a past and a tradition.
